The emphasis in all programs is on conscious, consistent and continual interaction with horses to help people fully experience an Alchemy, or powerful transformation, in their personal or professional growth, relationships and skills development.
In the EquiHeart Model, health and healing is a natural, beautiful, intuitive experience. Horses are uniquely designed to lead us through this transformation, or Alchemy. The EquiHeart staff is specifically trained to help participants listen to what the horses are telling them about themselves and their relationship patterns, and accept the invitations from horses to change their behavior to reach their goals
EquiHeart's basic philosophy of practice is one of reciprocal respect among all members participating in the experience - Mental Health Professional, Equine Professional, Clients or Participants and the Horses - keeping an open mind to the infinite possibilities of learning, healing and growing outside the bounds of what is familiar and comfortable. All information is valid; all contributors are valued.

Why Use Horses?

Horses are beautiful and challenging. Watching them graze or run through a pasture stirs passionate emotions and a desire for peace, harmony, and freedom. Horses are non-aggressive, yet powerful and commanding. As prey animals, they are anxious by nature, always watchful of their environment. To successfully relate to a horse, you must become calm, alert, aware, focused, and able to take charge to accomplish what you want.
These are healthy relationship skills that are more easily learned from a horse than from people Because horses don't play games. They communicate directly and honestly, always act the way they feel, and provide immediate feedback. When a horse learns to trust you, he wants you to succeed and will give you plenty of chances to try again, forgiving you for all your mistakes.
Horses, working with mental health professionals and equine professionals, have certain advantages over other animals in that they are natural teachers of healthy relationship skills. Horses' clear responses provide immediate feedback to professional staff, clients and workshop participants, which can be used to actively put change in motion and quickly assess progress. The results produce the Alchemy, or profound transformation, that simply cannot be experienced in an office or classroom setting. |
